Overview

Watch the overview training video

SP-Bench has been built to give you all the tools you need to analyse the performance, quality and value for money of your SP services, as well as the vital ability to see the wider scheme of things and compare your services to services from other Authorities across the UK.

This video and the guide below will take you through the key functions of SP-Bench and give you the knowledge you need to make the most of the reports at your disposal. Use the menu on the left to access in-depth guides to each of the areas in this overview.

1. Upload your data

The first step in reporting on your data in SP-Bench is to upload your SPLS extract, which SP-Bench will use as the source of the data used in its reports.

Simply log in, click the "Upload" link in the menu bar, browse for your SPLS extract file and upload it to the site! SP-Bench will check the contents of the extract to make sure they meet the format specified by the CLG and any errors will be reported back to you before the upload is completed.

Data uploaded to SP-Bench is processed overnight (to prevent interruptions to service during the day), so the data from this upload will be available in the reports the following morning.

2. Benchmark your service

Once your data has been uploaded into SP-Bench, you can begin using the built-in reports to get an insight into how your Services are performing relative to others.

The quickest way to get started is on the Benchmark My Service page. Here you can choose any one of your services and SP-Bench will generate reports showing you how it compares to services with similar features from LAs like yours.

The service you chose is highlighted in green and you can see its full name (and those of your other services) by hovering over the service's label on the x-axis. The services of other Authorities are anonymous, so you will need to contact them if you need further details.

3. Choose your measures

All the reports in SP-Bench give you the choice to work with cost, performance (Performance Indicator), quality (QAF) and outcome (achieved and failed) measures.

There are a wide range of interesting measures available in each area, including cost per support hour and support hours per unit for cost, all the core PIs for performance, the main QAF objectives and overall score for quality, and all of the outcomes.

4. Customise your report

While the built-in reports give you some great views of the data, you may find there are some tweaks you want to make to what services are included or what measures are displayed, for example.

SP-Bench's reports are highly customisable; based around a "pivot-table", the reports allow you to apply filters to the data to remove any service types, client groups, etc you aren't interested in. You can also change what measures are displayed or even display more than one at once - all without leaving the report!
